Because of the wide host range, if left unmanaged, ISHB can potentially spread to the rest of California and neighboring states. Epidemiological forecasting based on microclimate and host distribution data in urban forests has predicted many locations throughout California where the pest-pathogen complex could establish, including Sacramento and the San Francisco Bay Area.
